The Essence of Emo Clothes

If you have no idea what emo clothing is all about, you can it very hard to describe. Emo clothes are essentially about individualism and the freedom of expressing it. It provides a stylish way of expressing one’s characteristics, style, and preferences. The origin of emo clothes stems from a type of music which was popularized in the early 80’s. People adhere to this kind of fashion as a way of being distinctly unique as an individual.

However, the danger with emo clothes is that although you wear them to create and express your individuality, this fashion can become uniform across emo fanatics as they tend to wear the same type of clothing. This similar inclination to become different shared by many people tends to defeat the purpose of emo clothing’s intent of defining individualism and style.

Emo clothes, with their classic ill-fitting design (too-tight or too loose), represent rebellion by boldly stating one’s freedom of expression. Emo clothes have no definite or loyal patrons as individuals catering to this type of fashion tend to change constantly; growing out of emo clothing at a certain point. That is one of the reasons why emo fashion is difficult to define.

Usually worn in layers, with cardigans and stretched v-neck jumpers over undershirts, emo clothes’ objective is to create a look of disarray or an inverted version of the conventional style.

Well I think this is a well based article. And I myself, have gone through what I like to call as the lost emo time. Meaning that since I was little I have sort of always been this way, but I was finally able to dress myself and just about the time I was able to go shopping everyone was crazy about emos. I had random people screaming ‘EMOS ROCK’ and ‘LETS GO CUT OURSELVES’ I am so sorry to say this, but the idea of emo has lost it’s purpose and it’s way. True emos are now having to blend into normal society because of this and I think it is great that some people are still able to maintain themselves.

“True” emo’s no longer consider themselves quite emo. Emo is now more of a fashion sense than anything, which is disgusting. Personally, I’m looking at an emo haircut, but I listen to rock and metal, I dress different than most emo’s, even though I use black and dark colours more often.

just because you like dark colours doesnt make you an emo just because you listen to emo music doesnt make you an emo that is wot people think today .just coz you cut or like emo music or like dark colour makes you emo and it doesnt and a proper emo would not call themselfs an emo thats a fake people that r trying to be somthing there not and you find alot of them these days
and ive been how i am for years now and people dont understand that there more to it than the clothes and the music

You can’t really be ‘emo’.. Since it’s a music-style! We’ll ppl who consider themselves ‘emo’ are just posers! i mean c’mon, who ways something like “i’m emo” and isn’t a poser? okay, i’ll quit babbeling now..

Youu pretty much have it right.
    I’m an “emo”
It IS about freedom of expression., making a statement., and being an individual.
I do it to make a point.,
And just because I adore the style.
    I love it.
    It’s -me-.
    Yeahh.(:

I like emo (the style and the personality)- I am easily upset and write poems etc (sorry if this isn’t what you consider emo-it’s what I’ve heard; it just related to me) and I like to dress in dark colours (although it is hard to with the parents I’m stuck with, etc). However, I am not completely emo- I don’t cut myself (yes, I know this isn’t a characteristic of all emos), I don’t like wearing completely black and dark colours and various other reasons. I don’t see why people are making such a fuss about being emo. Surely, if it’s about expressing yourself and being an individual you may as well not have a name for it. It seems to have such a wide variety of people who like it- half-emos like me, ‘emos’ etc- so why are people a) complaining about people saying ‘I’m so emo’ etc and b) talking about ‘true emos’? It’s about being who you want to be and not worrying what other people do or think.

    That was rather long, sorry!
